Creating a perfect hallway

Hallway - it's one of the most important rooms in the home, but it's very often overlooked. Here are some tips how to create a perect hallway.

The hallway is the first place that your guests see when they enter your home and one of the most important rooms in the house as it sets the tone for what is to come. Hallway is also probably the second smallest room in the house and is often used as a space for lots of stuff.

First of all - lighting

If your hallway is long and narrow  with not much light like in Victorian style,  you can still make it work.  Just inject some drama with clever lighting here and there. Try to break up the symmetry by creating some contrast.

Another break in the... wall

Usually you want to keep walls in light and bright colors, particularly if it's a small space, but don't be afraid to be bold with other options. As you know hallway is a place that leds off to other rooms, so you must have a colour that will go with many others places. You don't have to be neutral. You can have a darker, more dramatic, shade than that of the sitting room which will give a hint of what is to come.
Using a large mirror will bounce light around the hallway, and now the walls can be a great place to hang some pictures.

Need some storage?
There probably isn't much room for furniture in the average hallway. A pew for sitting on while you are putting on shoes, and for storing things, is great if you can fit it in. Other than this you could use  a narrow console table or a ledge.
But remember to keep the space as clear as possible. Sometimes less is more.
